How do you make Answer gloves even more awesome? You make them plaid! And then you send them to me in a package containing the carbon handlebar I asked to try out, so they’re a nice surprise. They’re so awesome that I have to hide them from my husband or he will take them.
But this story is really about carbon bars. I’m a carbon bar believer. I think it’s one of the best things you can buy to make your bike better. It makes a HUGE difference in the amount of vibration you feel from your bike. I used to think it didn’t matter, but then I took the carbon flat bar off my fat bike and put a aluminum raised bar on instead, for the more upright riding position. I liked my riding position better, but UGH did the bike feel horrible! We were attempting to ride from Portage cutoff to Spencer glacier and I ended up riding on the railroad bed quite a bit, which is made of jagged rocks and railroad ties, ergo bumpy. I was musing to myself about why my bike felt so bad (if you read the story you know I ditched my friends’ route bumbling and went to the glacier by myself) and then I realized it was my first ride since changing out the bar. Heck no, I concluded to myself, I do not ever want to ride an aluminum bar again. So I went back home, changed back to my carbon flat bar, and called Answer to see if they had a carbon riser bar I could try. Lo and behold, they did! They have a new line of carbon ProTaper bars, from 780mm to 660mm, and a bunch of other kinds of carbon bars in various configurations. Don’t make me describe them, just go look.
Reviewing components is tough for me because really they tend to either work or not work. Actually, that make it easier, right? Well, these work, I love them, and if you love comfortable riding you will love them too. They don’t come in plaid (but these do, I guess gentlemen prefer plaid?) but they are still great.
