It’s hard to describe why fat tire bikes are so much fun. More fun than normal bikes. I have no idea why, but today was the first ride of the year on my new snow bike and I had a shit eating grin on my face from the moment I left the parking lot. Good thing there were not a lot of people on the trails or they might have been weirded out by the bizarre woman dressed in black riding a bike and grinning like a fool.
Fat bikes are so stable, so steady, and so inherently silly that one can’t help but have a good time. They feel like little motorcycles with your legs providing the engine, but unless you really, REALLY work at it they don’t go fast enough to hurt you. The stability makes going fast AND going slow really easy, and even Geardog knew something was different, for even though I thought I’d broken him of his habit of bouncing along and biting at my hands while I ride, he was in full form again today. Maybe it was the snow, he does love snow and we just got snow this week.
Anyway, we had a great shakedown cruise with the new bike and I’m super unbelievably stoked for winter now. Oh, did I mention I picked my newly tuned and remounted ski quiver and boot collection back up from the ski shop today? It was winter toy day I guess. Good thing I got out, because just as we finished our ride, we were slammed by a gigantic windstorm that now has half the state locked down. Who knows whether there will be any snow left tomorrow.
Somehow, I’m betting I find something to ride this bike on though.
