Trying out shoes is what I do. Therefore I have many pairs to choose from out there in the
Gear Pit garage. It’s beyond ridiculous, but the side benefit is that when a pair of shoes catches my attention, it’s noteworthy which makes my job easier.
I started wearing these ECCOs when hiking last summer, and frankly I just didn’t ever stop wearing them. They are just plain awesome. I wore them on every conceivable type of hiking around Southcentral Alaska and the only time I ran into trouble was when descending a seriously rocky, steep Chugach ridge. I just like a little more support when rock climbing, call me crazy. But for everything else – there was no other shoe I took along as many times as this one. I got all excited seeing them on the rack today; it’s almost time to wear them (give or take a month or two…sigh) and I’m stoked.
I love their soft sole, roomy toebox, and forgiving heel cup. You can really feel the trail but they don’t feel too thin. My feet, which (who?)have been giving me various amounts and types of trouble over the last year or so, have not complained one single time in these shoes. They are just fantastic. I never ran in them because I sorta think my running days are done, or at least paused for the next few years, but for hiking they are the shizzle. They are also currently on sale, so, you’re welcome.
