International Snow Science Workshop Recognizes Women

August 30, 2012 / Jill - Head Geargal / Geargals Blog, Head Geargal's Blog

This year, Geargals.com is sponsoring the women’s celebratory Diva Night at ISSW, here in Anchorage. The fact that it’s in Anchorage means that I can finally attend which is pretty cool. When I found out about Diva Night, I knew I had to help out. Diva Night is held after the main conference, and the folks in charge have reserved the popular Taproot pub for the occasion. It’s gonna be outstanding!

What’s kind of different about this event is that it really is WOMEN ONLY – until 9pm, when men are “welcome to join.” Ha! Knowing Anchorage like I do, I wonder how many men will be lined up at the doors at 9pm. A gathering of fit, whip-smart, outdoors-oriented women? Only a complete dumbass would fail to show up.

Anyway, here’s the scoop – these women are all active in snow-nerdiness – avalanche forecasters, ski patrollers, guides, search and rescue professionals; you name it. A few will be recognized for outstanding contributions to the field, and all of us will be stoked to get together. After taking avalanche classes and doing SAR events all over the West, I recognize more than a few names on the list and am excited to see everyone. So what I need is some support for these amazing ladies!

We could use donations of gear and other products for the event – if you and your company are interested in supporting the women of the avalanche and snow science professions, please get in touch with me at jill@geargals.com. And don’t delay – the event is the third week of September. If you’re coming to ISSW, drop me a line! Would love to see you.

If only I could blink like a Genie and be there. Sounds like a great time. Enjoy.

Aw, I was hoping Crystal would be sending you this way! It’s only a short (direct) flight….
