I’ve finally done it: I’ve lost or melted every single one of my Nalgenes. Who knows what’s happened to the lost ones? Where on earth do they go? In any case, I have to rebuild my stable of things to drink out of, and I’m not a fan of metal bottles. I was going to buy a bunch of Nalgenes as per standard, but I was given the chance to try a few more options and I found two that I love so I thought I’d share with you my findings.
I was sent a Vapur bottle by Verde PR. I wasn’t super excited about a collapsible bottle until I got ahold of it, and now I love it. It’s light, portable, flexible, and easy to drink out of. What’s not to love? The one downside is that it doesn’t hold that much. But it’s a great and easy way to bring some water along in a little bag or backpack if you’re not going to need a full liter.
GSI Outdoors DukJug
This thing is just excellent. It looks like a normal water bottle but its little extra features make it a winner. My favorite is the little insert in the mouth that makes it easy to drink out of it without spilling even when Jeeping on a bumpy road or while walking. True, the clear insert also means that a few times now I’ve spilled water everywhere when I’ve tried to fill the bottle with the insert still in there, but that’s user error (still, would be nice if the insert was colored to idiot-proof the concept). The bottle is a little curved in the middle and covered with a silicone sleeve to accommodate the standard wrap of duct tape, a great little extra. I love the DukJug and it’s bumped Nalgenes off my list of basics.
There you have it, two new ways to carry your water if you’re in a place where you’re not allowed to buy bottled water and you don’t want to drink bottled soda, iced tea, juice, sports drinks, “protein water”, energy drinks, Kool-aid or any of the other bajillion things that come in bottles but are still available for sale anywhere, even where you can’t buy water, for a reason that is way beyond my understanding. I guess they won’t be happy until EVERY American is clinically obese from drinking their candy since that’s all that’s available to slack their thirst.
